HC Deb 12 November 1991 vol 198 c493W
Mr. David Porter

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the relationship between spending by local education authorities and examination results.

Mr. Fallon

The available data show no direct relationship between spending by local education authorities and the examination results their pupils achieve. Appropriate spending levels are bound to be affected to some extent by each authority's circumstances; some authorities obtain good results at much lower cost than others.
