To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what action is being taken by his Department to monitor the implementation of recommendations made in HM inspectorate of schools' reports on individual schools.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

After a sufficient interval to give an opportunity to act on a report—usually a period of several months after publication—the inspectorate mounts a follow-up inspection to discuss the report and any action which has been taken on it with the director of education and the head teacher.
