Mr. Darling

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will detail expenditure on income support residential care allowances for the years 1988–89 and 1990–91 by the different residential and nursing home categories for each benefit area.

Because of the sample size of the data collected on the number of residents and expenditure in residential care and nursing homes it is only statistically sound for the larger categories of care. Information is not available for expenditure split into areas. The available data are shown in the following table:
