HL Deb 11 November 1991 vol 532 c17WA
Lord Bethell

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they can now confirm, that the wartime massacres of 14,500 Polish servicemen at Katyn and elsewhere in Russia were carried out by the Soviet NKVD.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (The Earl of Caithness)

The Soviet authorities' admission in April 1990 that the NKVD (forerunner of the KGB) was responsible for the massacre was very welcome.
