HC Deb 08 November 1991 vol 198 cc294-5W
Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he will indicate the level of financial provision he intends to make for new environmentally sensitive area designations between now and the end of the 1992–93 financial year.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

My right hon. Friend proposes to make available £1.5 million for the designation, subject to parliamentary approval, of new environmentally sensitive areas in Scotland in the financial year 1992–93. Provision will also be made for further development of existing first round areas and for continuing payments in existing and new areas after 1992–93.

Mr. Wallace

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland how many environmentally sensitive areas he expects to designate between now and 1 April 1993.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The Government believe that environmentally sensitive areas offer significant benefits to farming and conservation. My right hon. Friend therefore intends to designate further areas in Scotland in 1992 and 1993 and has sought advice from his statutory advisers. He will announce the areas in due course.
