To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will bring forward proposals to ensure that local authorities issuing taxi and hire care licences are aware of any criminal record of the applicants.

Section 47 of the Road Traffic Act 1991 makes provision for this. It is due to come into effect on 1 April 1992.
