To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will direct British Rail to cease immediately the practice of installing DC single-rail track circuits on non-electrified lines; and if he will make a statement.

British Rail has already decided to cease the practice of installing DC single-rail track circuits on non-electrified lines. BR is also planning a programme of modifications to existing DC single-rail track circuits on non-electrified lines.
