asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many prisoners currently serving life sentences have been released on licence and recalled to prison, and of these how many were reconvicted of a further offence and how many were recalled for other reasons.

The provisional figure for the number of life sentence prisoners in Prison Service establishments on 30th June 1990 who had been recalled from licence is 112. Thirty-three of these had been reconvicted of a further offence and 79 had been recalled for other reasons.
