HC Deb 23 May 1991 vol 191 c562W
Mr. David Nicholson

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what advice his Department has given to farmers whose land is contaminated by spills of inflammable liquids; and what such contaminations he is aware of having taken place since 1987.

Mr. Maclean

The Department investigates incidents involving the spillage of inflammable liquid on agricultural land in view of the possible food safety implications. In the light of the results of such investigations, advice would be provided to the farmer or other measures taken as appropriate. The only recent incident involving such a spillage of which the Department is aware concerned the derailment and fire on a train at Bradford-on-Tone, Taunton on 16 May this year.
