§ Lord Denningasked Her Majesty's Government:
Further to the Answer of the Baroness Blatch on 10th May 1991 and her previous Answers, whether each of the trust deeds in the Diocese of Leicester contained a typical Sunday School provision and was subject to the same Sunday School usage as in the Diocese of Guildford, and whether the Secretary of State for Education and Science in establishing a scheme should do so on the same lines for each diocese, irrespective of the failure of any particular trustee, through inadvertence, to make a request for a Sunday School fund.
§ Baroness BlatchThe deeds of only two of the foundations included in the order for the Diocese of Leicester contain typical Sunday School provision. The Secretary of State for Education and Science is unaware of the extent to which these schools were actually used for Sunday School purposes or how such usage compared with similar schools in the Guildford order. Since the primary function of orders made under Section 2 of the Education Act 1973 is to enable the assets representing discontinued denominational voluntary schools to be applied for the benefit of new and continuing voluntary schools of the same denomination, the Secretary of State is content that provision for a Sunday School fund should be considered only where a request for such a fund has been made by the trustees.
