To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the current situation as regards the proposed airport development plan in Hong Kong.

Talks with the Chinese Government on Hong Kong's airport project resumed on 18 May. We and the Chinese Government agree that Hong Kong needs a new airport and we are making intensive efforts to secure Chinese support for the project.
