HC Deb 21 May 1991 vol 191 c413W
Sir Eldon Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent representations he has made to Zimbabwe about the fall in value of both the pensions and the Zimbabwe funds paid to former members of the British South Africa Police who served there throughout their active careers and are now living in retirement in Britain; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Chalker

I understand that the Zimbabwe Government are meeting their legal obligations on the payment of pensions to their ex-public servants. No representations have therefore been made to them about this. The question of exchange control is an internal matter for the Zimbabwe Government, but we take every opportunity to remind them of the hardship which their controls can cause for people who wish to transfer funds from Zimbabwe.
