HC Deb 20 May 1991 vol 191 c385W
16. Mr. Salmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will review his Department's policy on 16 and 17-year-olds' entitlement to income support; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jack

The Government's policy is to offer 16 and 17-year-olds the positive options of education, entering employment, or taking up the Government's guarantee of quality training through youth training. But income support is still available to those vulnerable groups of young people who are unable to participate in YT or those seeking a YT place who would otherwise suffer severe hardship.
