To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will give the budget allocated to policing Leicestershire for each of the years from 1979 to 1990, together with the percentage increase or decrease from year to year over this period, discounting inflation.

The budget of a police force is set by its police authority. Expenditure on the Leicestershire police force between 1979–80 and 1989–90, in cash and real terms, is set out below. During this period, the Home Office paid specific grant on the net expenditure of provincial police forces at the rate of 50 per cent. up to 1985–86 and 51 per cent. from 1986–87.
