§ Ms. WalleyTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will introduce legislation to reverse the effect of the Charity Commissioners' decision to interpret the Miners Welfare Act 1952 so as to define miners, rather than ex-miners and families, as the sole beneficiaries of the social and welfare activities within the meaning of the Act.
§ Mr. John PattenThe provisions of the 1952 Act already include ex-miners and their dependants within the social and welfare benefits of the Act. I have no information about any decision of the Charity Commissioners which would affect the provisions of the Act, but if the hon. Member has further details she may wish to write to the chief commissioner direct.
