HC Deb 20 May 1991 vol 191 c335W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many liquidators/receivers have been appointed by the insolvency service.

Mr. Redwood

The Secretary of State has power to appoint liquidators in compulsory liquidations and trustees in bankruptcy following application by an Official Receiver. Statistics do not differentiate between liquidators and trustees, but during the year to 31 March 1990, a total of 2,081 appointments were made, and in the year to 31 March 1991 there were 2,356.

Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry how many complaints have been lodged with him or the Insolvency Service about the conduct of insolvency practitioners.

Mr. Redwood

Statistics relating to the number of complaints received by the Secretary of State or the Insolvency Service are not kept. However, I can confirm that, in addition to ministerial correspondence, the Insolvency Service receives correspondence from interested parties of companies in liquidation or receivership, or of bankrupts where some dissatisfaction concerning the practitioner is voiced.
