HC Deb 20 May 1991 vol 191 cc344-5W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what matters concerning environmental protection and pollution control were discussed between members of the European Foreign Affairs Council and their counterparts from the European Free Trade Association member states in their meeting on 13 to 15 May.

Mr. Garel-Jones

EC and EFTA Ministers met on 13 May to review progress in the negotiations on a European economic area—EEA. This will extend the single market to the EFTA countries, and promote co-operation in a range of other areas, including in the environmental field. Ministers noted that there was a substantial convergence of views between the two sides on those elements which should figure in the EEA agreement.
