HC Deb 17 May 1991 vol 191 c310W
Mrs. Ray Michie

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if there are any plans to designate the Isle of Islay an environmentally sensitive area; what consultations are under way to review the present arrangements; what consultations are under way or planned by the Nature Conservancy Council for Scotland and other interested parties; when he expects consultations to conclude; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

My right hon. Friend has no plans to designate the Isle of Islay as an environmentally sensitive area. He is, however, currently reviewing the present arrangements for such areas and will, if necessary, honour his statutory obligation to consult the Nature Conservancy Council for Scotland and the Countryside Commission for Scotland on any proposal to change these arrangements flowing from the review.
