HL Deb 17 May 1991 vol 528 cc79-80WA
Lord Molloy

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they have received from regional and district health authorities any forecasts of redundancies in the health service; and whether they intend to publish any such forecasts.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Health (Baroness Hooper)

It is a matter for health authorities locally to determine the overall numbers of staff they require to provide full and proper patient care. It is therefore not necessary for the Government to require health authorities to submit forecasts of redundancies, although my right honourable friend the Secretary of State will retain an overriding interest in ensuring that there is comprehensive provision of health care.
