HC Deb 17 May 1991 vol 191 c296W
Dr. Marek

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what assessment he has made of the quality of training provided for people from Brymbo steelworks who were recently made redundant; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. David Hunt

Training for those recently made redundant at the Brymbo steelworks is provided under the iron and steel employees' readaptation benefits scheme which is jointly funded by the Department of Trade and Industry and the European Commission. In the course of administering the scheme the Department of Trade and Industry has discussed the quality of training, both with trainees and with training providers, and has drawn apparent deficiencies to the attention of the providers. That Department is continuing to monitor the situation closely.
