Mr. Darling

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list the numbers of(a) asylum applications granted and (b) cases in which exceptional leave to remain in the United Kingdom was granted in (i) 1988, (ii) 1989 and (iii) 1990.

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will list(a) the number of individual applications for asylum in the United Kingdom and (b) the number of dependants of the principal applicants for asylum received in (i) 1988, (ii) 1989, (iii) 1990 and (iv) January to March in the current year;

(2) how many claims for asylum were outstanding as at (a) 31 December 1988, (b) 31 December 1989 and (c) 31 December 1990.
