To ask the Secretary of State for Health what estimate has been made of the cost of treating AIDS patients in the national health service for each of the last five years for which figures are available; and if he will give the figures separately for men and women.

The Government have made available the following sums of earmarked money to regional health authorities as a contribution towards the costs incurred in helping prevent the spread of HIV infection and providing treatment, counselling and support for those affected by HIV and AIDS.
