To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he has any further plans to increase the police establishment in Leicestershire.

My right hon. Friend has approved an increase of 13 posts for the Leicestershire constabulary with effect from 1 October 1991. The police authority has also made an application for a further 27 police officers in 1992–93 which, with the advice of Her Majesty's chief inspector of constabulary, is being considered along with applications from other police authorities.
