To ask the Secretary of State for Energy what proportion of total United Kingdom industrial investment is accounted for by capital investment in the North sea.

Capital investment in the North sea accounted for 16 per cent. of total United Kingdom industrial investment in 1990.

whether the installation is new or retrofit as well as site-specific factors. These factors will also affect the choice of emission control equipment. A comprehensive review of emission abatement technologies, "Manual of Acidic Abatement Technologies", undertaken by the Fellowship of Engineering for the Department of Environment, contains sample cost estimates for a number of FGD processes and a copy is available in the Library of the House.
