Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, pursuant to his reply to the hon. Member for Leicester, East (Mr. Vaz),Official Report, 30 April, column 140, about the volume of correspondence received by the Foreign Office Members of Parliament correspondence unit, if he will make it his policy to institute arrangements to enable him to answer substantively such questions in future.

Detailed statistics about the volume of correspondence received are not readily available, and at present could be provided only at disproportionate cost. However, we are considering the results of a scrutiny of ministerial correspondence by the Cabinet Office.
