HC Deb 14 May 1991 vol 191 c120W
Mr. Flynn

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what would be the cost of(a) increasing the personal allowances for income support, housing benefit and community charge benefit by 60p for a single person over 18 years and £1.20 for a couple, (b) reducing the taper for rent rebates and allowances from 65 to 60 per cent. and (c) making both these changes.

Miss Widdecombe

The latest estimates suggest that these measures would cost(a) £210 million, (b) £90 million, and (c) £300 million in Great Britain in 1991–92.
