To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the approvals for capital projects given by the Secretary of State for Transport to British Rail over the last three years and the principal contractors and consultants chosen to undertake the work.

  • 100 Class 60 diesel locomotives for freight
  • 200 Class 319/321 electric multiple unit (EMU) coaches for NSE
  • 128 Class 158 Sprinter Express diesel multiple unit (DMU) coaches for Regional Railways
  • 77 Class 165 Networker DMU coaches for Chiltern line Cambridge-Kings Lynn electrification and 28 EMU coaches
  • 124 Class 321 EMU coaches for NSE
  • 31 additional Mk IV coaches for East Coast Main Line Manchester Airport rail Link and 6 DMU coaches
  • 400 class 465 Networker EMU coaches for SE London and NW Kent
  • 103 Class 165 Networker DMU coaches for Thames and Chiltern lines
  • Intercapitals passenger trains for Channel Tunnel services
  • Birmingham Cross city electrification
  • 700 container wagons for Railfreight Distribution
  • 30 Class 92 electric locomotives for Channel Tunnel freight
  • Tonbridge-Redhill electrification
  • Waterloo international terminal and North Pole maintenance depot
  • Chislehurst-Folkestone resignalling
  • 69 Class 159 DMU coaches for Waterloo-Exeter Hooton-Chester-Ellesmere Port electrification
  • 65 Class 165 Networker DMU coaches for Paddington services
  • 86 Class 466 Networker EMU coaches for SE London and NW Kent

The appointment of contractors and consultants for investment projects is a matter for BR.
