HC Deb 14 May 1991 vol 191 c122W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security if he will estimate the cost in the financial year 1991–92 of reducing the deduction for tariff income under the housing benefit and community charge benefit schemes from £1 to 50p for every £250 or part thereof of capital, giving figures for Great Britain and the United Kingdom.

Miss Widdecombe

[holding answer 30 April 1991]: The latest available estimates suggest that the cost in 1991–92 would be around £90 million for Great Britain. Information relating to Northern Ireland is a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
