To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what has been(a) the establishment and (b) the actual strength of the Territorial Army in each year since 1978.

Full details for years prior to 1982 are not recorded centrally and could not be obtained without incurring disproportionate cost. The relevant data for the years 1982 to 1990 are given in the table.
