Mrs. Margaret Ewing

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list in theOfficial Report the names of those voluntary organisations which have received support for the professional training of its social workers in each of the past five years; what was the total level of financial support in each organisation over the same period; and if he will make a statement on future increases in support for professional social work training in the voluntary sector.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The names of voluntary organisations receiving support for professional training of its social workers and the levels of that support over the past five years are set out in the table.

It is not Government policy fully to fund the training needs of the voluntary sector and agencies are encouraged to include realistic training costs in budgets to ensure their acceptance into mainstream funding. The current level of support for 1991–92 to the Central Council for Education and Training in Social Work is 1,003,000 the majority of which is devoted to supporting voluntary sector training interests. The level of future support for professional social work training will be considered by the Scottish Office alongside other demands on resources.
