HC Deb 09 May 1991 vol 190 cc578-9W
Mr. Ralph Howell

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what was the total number of occupational pensioners in the United Kingdom in 1970, 1980, and 1990 receiving pensions from local authorities; and what was the total amount paid in occupational pensions by local authorities in those years.

Miss Widdecombe

The information requested is not held centrally. Local authorities are responsible not only for the payment of pensions to their own former employees, who are members of the local government superannuation scheme but for the payment of pensions to retired firefighters and police officers who are members of schemes administered by the Home Office. In Scotland the Scottish Office is responsible for the administration of all such occupational pensions.
