asked Her Majesty's Government:

For the most recent date for which figures are available, how many serving prison officers were aged: (a) 20–30; (b) 31–40; (c) 41–50; (d) 51–60 years, and what was the average age of a serving prison officer at that date.

On 26th April, the numbers of prison officers within these age bands were:

31–40 5,253
41–50 5,223
51–60 2,181

The average age was 38 years.
