HC Deb 08 May 1991 vol 190 cc473-4W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement in respect of an incident on the evening of 22 March when a train carrying explosives was involved in an emergency alert near Thirsk, Yorkshire.

Mr. McLoughlin

I understand that on 22 April British Rail's lineside equipment detected hot wheel bearings on a train at Thirsk. The fire brigade was called as a precautionary measure. The incident was not reported to the Health and Safety Executive's railway inspectorate, but the inspectorate is making inquiries.
