HC Deb 08 May 1991 vol 190 c473W
Mr. Simon Coombs

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport whether he has received a further progress report from British Rail on implementation of the recommendations of Sir Anthony Hidden's report on the Clapham junction railway accident; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Rifkind

Sir Bob Reid has submitted British Rail's third progress report to me, and I have arranged for copies to be placed in the Library. BR has continued to make progress on these recommendations, and all of those for BR or the British Transport police are either complete or have actions in hand. Some of the recommendations require long-term development. I welcome the report, which demonstrates BR's commitment to maintaining a very high standard of safety. Safety improvements under way include changes in working methods, improved training, new safety management systems and investment in new equipment.
