Lord Richard

asked Her Majesty's Government:

How many prisoners serving determinate sentences were reviewed for parole in 1989 and 1990 respectively and how many of them were serving sentences of (a) seven years or more and (b) 10 years or more.

Earl Ferrers

The report of the Parole Board for 1989 shows that 23,772 determinate cases were considered for parole, of which 1,970 were of prisoners serving seven years or more. Some 590 of these were serving sentences of 10 years or more. The report for 1990 will be published later this year.
