To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the operation of the Armed Forces (Crown Proceedings) Act 1987.

Since the repeal of section 10 of the Crown Proceedings Act 1947 by the Armed Forces (Crown Proceedings) Act 1987, we have received 2,249 claims for compensation from members of the armed forces. A total of 271 claims have been settled at a cost of £3,433,414. Nine hundred and thirty seven claims have been repudiated and 1,041 are still under investigation.
