Mr. Alan WilliamsTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what new representations of substance he has received since the right hon. Member for Swansea, West presented a petition for the retention of the Singleton casualty unit; and what considerations were raised by the petition which required consultation beyond that already encompassed by his review.
§ Mr. Nicholas BennettThe right hon. Gentleman presented his petition on 12 February. In the light of the right hon. Gentleman's representations, I visited the unit on 25 March and met a deputation of local residents, who handed me further letters. Three additional petitions, including another from the right hon. Gentleman, have been received.
In the light of these representations and my personal visit to the unit, I have consulted further within my Department. I am considering all matters put to me and hope shortly to announce the result of the review.
