HC Deb 02 May 1991 vol 190 c301W
Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer (1) if he will place a copy of the valuation office's rating circulars numbers 53 and 58 in the Library;

(2) if he will publish details of the valuation exercise carried out by the valuation office in preparation for publication of the Government's council tax proposals.

Mr. Maude

The Inland Revenue valuation office has been working with other Government Departments to provide policy advice to Ministers in connection with the Government's proposals for a new council tax in the usual way. It is not the practice to disclose the basis or the details of such advice.

Mr. Blunkett

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the cost of the exercises being undertaken by the valuation office in relation to rating circulars 53 and 58; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Maude

The estimated cost of these exercises is about £275,000.
