HC Deb 02 May 1991 vol 190 c327W
19. Mr. William Powell

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many people are currently self-employed in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Needham

At June 1990, the latest date for which figures are available, there were an estimated 75,800 self-employed persons in Northern Ireland. This represents a growth in self-employment of some 16,600–28 per cent.—since June 1983.
