To ask the Secretary of State for Employment how many of the 193 valves required to be fitted as a result of Offshore Installations (Emergency Pipe-line Valve) Regulations 1989 were fitted as at 31 March.

As at 31 March 1991, 164 of the total 192 emergency shutdown valves had been fitted or relocated in compliance with the Offshore Installations (Emergency Pipeline Valve) Regulations 1989. Of the 28 valves remaining at 31 March, 25 of them are in the Brent field and all the associated pipelines are shut down pending installation of the valves.
