HC Deb 02 May 1991 vol 190 c290W
Mr. Prescott

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs at what time, GMT and local, the British ambassador to Kuwait first learnt of the invasion of Kuwait by the Iraqi forces on 2 August 1990; at what time, GMT and locally, he was aware of the attack on the royal palace; and how far the palace is from his residence.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I refer the hon. Member to the answer I gave him on 14 November 1990, at column 136. At approximately 03.00 GMT, 06.00 Kuwait local time, on 2 August the ambassador became aware of an Iraqi attack on the royal palace, which is less than a quarter of a mile from the ambassador's residence.
