HC Deb 02 May 1991 vol 190 cc295-6W
Mr. Parry

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will assess the effect on the level of unemployment on Merseyside of the proposed reduction in employment in the Ford car factory.

Mr. Forth

I have no plans to make such an assessment. The company has announced a reduction in staffing of 2,800 at its Halewood plant to be phased in over several years, and to be achieved in the main by natural wastage, early retirement and voluntary redundancy.

The normal range of services and facilities of the Department and of the employment service will be available to Ford employees who lose their jobs.
