HC Deb 02 May 1991 vol 190 c305W
Mr. Peter Bottomley

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will consider whether earlier and systematic public information on whether a driver killed in a road crash had consumed alcohol would help to maintain awareness of the dangers of drink driving.

Mr. Chope

We publish aggregated figures based on coroners' data about drivers who were over the legal limit which show that the number of people killed in drink-related accidents has been reduced by 50 per cent. in the past 10 years. I do not believe it would assist in our continuing campaign against drinking and driving to publish details of whether or not an individual driver killed in a road crash had consumed alcohol.
