HC Deb 02 May 1991 vol 190 c306W
Mr. McWilliam

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) when he will next meet representatives of the motor manufacturing industry to discuss the raising of standards of car design to combat theft of and from cars;

(2) when he will next meet representatives of the AA, RAC and National Breakdown to discuss ways in which automobiles can be better designed to combat theft of and from cars.

Mr. Chope

The Government attach a high priority to the need to improve the design of cars to prevent the theft both of cars themselves and of objects from them.

For this reason, my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department has recently met representatives from vehicle manufacturers and the insurance industry. My Department was represented at both these meetings. Further meetings with interested parties will be arranged in future.
