HC Deb 01 May 1991 vol 190 c216W
Mr. Nicholas Brown

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will publish figures showing, for 1989–90 or the most recent available estimate, the amount of tax which remained uncollected by the Inland Revenue at the end of the fiscal year.

Mr. Maude

[holding answer 30 April 1991]: These figures are produced for the Inland Revenue's accounting year, to 31 October, rather than on a fiscal year basis.

The Inland Revenue's provisional figure for the amount of tax which remained uncollected at the end of October 1990 is £6.1 billion.

All but a small proportion of the tax uncollected at the end of each account is subsequently collected, much of it with interest added.
