HL Deb 01 May 1991 vol 528 cc25-6WA
Lord Graham of Edmonton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish for each of the last five years, the number of prison officer hours spent on escort duty at each prison establishment.

Earl Ferrers

Records of the deployment of staff on escort duties are held in establishments and are normally kept for two years. This information is not available centrally and could be obtained only at disproportionate cost.

In the discussion paper Court Escort Custody and Security (Home Office; July 1990) it was estimated that in 1989 the equivalent of about 1,000 prison officers were deployed nationally on court service work, which includes escort duties.
