HL Deb 28 March 1991 vol 527 c70WA
Lord Denning

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether the Secretary of State, in making or proposing orders under Section 2 of the Education Act 1973 (in respect of the proceeds of sale of closed schools) had any, and if so what, reason for distinguishing between the Diocese of Guildford (in which three-fourteenths of the proceeds go to the parishes) and the Diocese of Leicester (in which none of the proceeds goes to the parishes, all going to the Diocesan Board of Finance).

Baroness Blatch

Where diocesan authorities apply for orders under Section 2 of the Education Act 1973, the Secretary of State draws no distinction between the various applicants. The Secretary of State agreed to create Sunday school funds comprising three-fourteenths of the trust assets in the order for the Diocese of Guildford at the request of the respective trustees and with the agreement of the diocese. No such request has been made in respect of any of the foundations included in the proposed order for the Diocese of Leicester.
