HC Deb 28 March 1991 vol 188 c568W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the future of each of the RAF bases in Lincolnshire.

Mr. Archie Hamilton

My right hon. Friend the Minister of State for Defence Procurement announced on 28 February last year, at column 290, the withdrawal of Bloodhound from RAF North Coates, which will be closed, and RAF Barkston Heath, which will be retained as a relief landing ground for RAF Cranwell. At present we are examining the scope for rationalising a range of defence support activities, and this may well affect other RAF bases in Lincolnshire, but no decisions have yet been taken.
