HC Deb 28 March 1991 vol 188 cc502-3W
Mrs. Wise

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs for how long a person who applies for a visa for a three-month visit but is granted one for six months may remain in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

I have been asked to reply.

Visit visas do not specify the length of stay permitted. This is decided by the immigration officer in granting leave at the port of entry. A person granted leave to enter may remain for the period endorsed in the passport.

Mrs. Wise

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how many husbands have applied from India for settlement visas to join their wives in Britain in each of the last three years; how many have been granted; and how many have been refused.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

I have been asked to reply.

The information requested is given in the table.
