HC Deb 28 March 1991 vol 188 c498W
Mr. Strang

To ask the Prime Minister if he will make it his policy to make a one-off top-up donation to the International Atomic Energy Agency safeguards budget.

The Prime Minister

The International Atomic Energy Agency's safeguards activities are financed from its regular budget to which the United Kingdom contributes annually. When the agency's board of governors discusses the budget for 1991–92, later this year, the United Kingdom will continue to argue that safeguards activities deserve the highest priority. The Government continue to believe that the regular budget is the best way of financing the agency's safeguards activities, rather than by making extra-budgetary payments.
